Have you ever wondered if the queries, doubts or questions you have about something are actually myths or facts. I have, many a times. And in today's #GuruGyan I will share few doubts which I consider as myths and how I wish to bang them if I could in my own way possible. Now, all these myths are more or less about #DigitalProfiles So if you think you too have doubts related to it, read on and if you are someone who is very clear about it, consider this a fun read. No harm reading it though.
#MYTH 1: Digital Profiling means having your Linkedin Profile sorted out.
#BANGER 1: Digital Profiling is the sum content about a person on the internet which includes all the Personal and Professional information about that person available on internet. It can be spread across 4 different segments.
Social Media - Accounts on Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and other platforms.
Blogs - Specific content pertaining to something through blogs via wordpress or blogpost where people can share their views through comments.
Microblogs - Posts which focus more on specific topics with limited characters and use of relevant tags like Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit etc.,
Videos - Videos could be homemade or truly professional. Youtube channels, Tiktok, Vmeo etc.,
#MYTH 2: We need to maintain the same profile across all our social media platforms for optimum reach and to build authenticity for our profile.
#BANGER 2: How would you feel if your Mom makes Biryani at home, Your neighbour has made Biryani at home, you go out for lunch and the special dish at the restaurant is Biryani and to top it all, your cousin staying overseas also had made Biryani, all in one day. For a Biryani lover, it would look like a festival. Hell no. Even for a Biryani Lover, it would seem rather uncanny. The same goes with your profile. If someone is browsing through your digital profile and finds the same thing everywhere, chances are it might not make it to the list. The point here is to spread across parts of your profile accordingly. There is no right or wrong way of doing it. Just make sure that the handle where your professional details are put across has very few basic details of your personal life and the account where you highlight your personal details can be used to showcase your interests, hobbies or other skills that you possess.
#MYTH 3: Reviewing our profile time to time without any update in our profile is a mere waste of time.
#BANGER 3: I am sure we all make it a point to review and edit our profiles as and when we add a particular skill to our kitty. That being said, it is equally important to review and rework on our digital profile in regular time periods. This can avoid potential recruiters a lot of misconceptions and notions that they would have about us otherwise. A simple way to do this is to type your name in the Google Search Bar which will then give out your details across all the social media handles you hold. This way you will also know which social media handle of yours is the most searched one and work on it accordingly. Don't be surprised if you come across sites where you don't hold an account. It could be a part of some other website that you frequently use.
#MYTH 4: You cannot delete things from your profile.
#BANGER 4: Of course you cannot delete or remove basic details like your name, qualification etc., but as and when you build skills and keep updating your profile, it is best advised to remove the ones that are outdated, irrelevant or obsolete. There is no harm in doing so. In fact that might prove to be a perfect value add to your digital profile. Potential recruiters are not looking for the dump of data about you. They are looking at your current skills relevant to their requirement. This can also help you identify your skill gaps and nudge you to work towards them positively.
#MYTH 5: POST! POST! And POST MORE.
#BANGER 5: It is a known fact that the more you post across your social media platforms, the more reach you will get. But don't forget to #THINK before you post. Be sure of why you are posting a certain information or article or even a video for that matter. While it is important to have a voice and be seen on relevant things, it is also advisable that you think before you post something on your social media platform which can impact your Digital profile directly. If you think that you will not be comfortable speaking about something face to face with your potential recruiters or people who are browsing through your profile, then you might as well refrain yourself from posting it across your social media account.
