Not so Queer....

I have been busy all last week working on a project #campduo conducted by #duolingo for people learning languages through it. I have been learning Spanish and French for a while now and recently added Finnish into my kitty. Not sure where I am going to end up but this journey of learning definitely seems exciting. As a part of the camp, I got to do a lot of things that I would not have done otherwise, like cooking. I did try out few interesting recipes from different cultures with a tinge of Indian flavours to them. Will talk about that sometime later maybe. Time for our #DigitalDabba now. Since I have been camping at #duo, I hopped, skipped and stumbled across French and Spanish people just to keep my spirits high for the camp. And I thought I should be sharing it with you.

#LIFEGOALS - Rebecca and Marc who are about to get married soon decide to write a shared story of their roots to create a family tree around the last 25 years for which they travel to an old farmhouse that belonged to their family, only to unravel hidden secrets about love, hatred, sex, desire, infidelity and desire which could destroy their relationship forever. Wesley, a woman in her 30s who had imagined that at 30 she would be married, with a dope career and a couple of kids but had none of it today, except for her two besties who were ready to listen to her shit and tag along in whatever she was up to. What are friends for if not for this? And if you think the same way,…..We’ll come back to it later. I am sure you know now pretty clearly what Wesley wanted. On the other hand was Marianne, a young painter taking up painting lessons at the end of the eighteenth century who gets reminded of Héloïse whom she had met few years back when one of her students asks about a painting of hers which was named “Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (Portait of a Lady on Fire)

#STRENGTHS – Rebecca and Marc start off their story with their birth and write about Victor Mendoza and Olmo Mendoza two brothers who are a part of their family. Victor who is Rebecca’s father (not biological) who comes into her life after she is born and suffers major surgeries at the time of her birth which makes her Mother - Macarena, a famous rock singer before she got pregnant, go into a kind of psychotic depression and has to stay away from home getting treated. It was always Victor who had been both Father and Mother to Rebecca. Marc’s mother Nuria is left as an orphaned teenager when she comes across her ray of hope, Olmo only to realise that she has been betrayed by him. Later as a literary editor she meets Amaia, an aspiring writer and things spark between them. Too confusing is it? Let’s make it a little lighter by reading about Brooke and Kaylie, Wesley’s besties who can go against the world for her. Which means that travelling to an unknown hotel to find Wes’ boyfriend’s laptop to delete a certain email sent by her in complete rage only to realise that the poor chap was actually hospitalised and not trying to avoid her in any case and in turn get thrashed out of the hotel, was completely normal for them. And probably that is why they are called the Desparados. While Marianne was trying to get closer to Héloïse to come up with a painting of hers to be sent to the groom in Milan, she comes to know that Héloïse is trying to come out of the tragedy of her sister’s suicide while refusing to pose for painters to paint her as she was least interested in getting married to the groom who was supposed to marry her sister. So, Marianne acts as a hired companion to be able to paint her secretly and manages to do so with the help of Sophie, the maid.

#FATALBLOWS – While writing the story, Marc finds out dark, hidden secrets about Rebecca and he calls off their relationship and walks out of writing “el árbol de la sangre” (The Tree of Blood). It is only after they get back to their respective families that they realise that the tree of blood needs to be completed and also the love they have for each other. So they get back to writing it, only to encounter the biggest truth of their lives. Wesley’s friends leave her halfway through the mission as they realise that it has always been about Wesley with them. Her life, her boyfriends, her dates, her job and now this – her stupid mission to delete an email from her boyfriend’s laptop without him knowing it. And Wesley is left with no choice but to tell her boyfriend about it only to get dumped by him and get back to her friends. Meanwhile, Marianne reveals the painting to Héloïse, only to be criticised as it doesn’t portray her real self and decides to destroy it and redo it. Surprisingly though, Héloïse agrees to pose for her this time. And the portrait gets done amidst their realisation of the attraction they have for each other. Sounds queer, does it? Ironically, which was quiet common during those times, Héloïse gets married and Marianne stays single teaching painting hoping to get a meet the love of her life just once more.

#GIVEAWAYS – Rebecca and Marc will tell you that a relationship can never be perfect without hidden secrets, disagreements and hatred but it is the will to stay together that makes it complete. The tree is definitely something to watch out for. Wesley and her friends are a classic example of people who consider their friends as mere errand runners for them and makes us realise who our true friends are. Watch it with your friends to have a blast. A fun watch which might irritate and confuse you at first but will make you feel better towards the end. Marianne and Héloïse tell us that it takes two strong women to fall in love with each other and not have any qualms about it. A queer story put out in the simplest way that will linger on to you for long. One thing that I loved in all three stories was the beautiful locations and the scenic descriptions. They have a tangy flavour that will tickle your spirit and transport you there subconsciously.

So, if you are looking out for some thrill, mystery or queer stories, do have a look at these ones on #Netflix. They are sure to tickle your imagination. Do not get bothered by the language. What are sub-titles for? And you wouldn’t need them most of the time if you get involved with the story.

1.      Rebecca and Marc from el árbol de la sangre (The Tree of blood) If you have seen La Casa De Papel (The Money Heist) and have liked Tokyo, you will definitely love Rebecca.
2.     Wesley and her friends from DesperadosIf you are a fan of New Girl and People of Earth, you will love her totally.
3.     Marianne and Héloïse from Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (Portait of a Lady on Fire) – Do watch them if you are looking for a change of flavour this season.

Happy Mother's Day........

Wishing my friends a not just a Happy but a Wonderful Mother's Day. I just realised that we are no more just friends, we are probably extended family. They say a friend in need is a friend indeed, But these guys were there for me even when I didn't need them. Love you guys. Keep rocking. We are meant to be. My memories of this day go back to about 13 yrs from now, we've been celebrating this day from then on with a little difference every year. Today, we don't celebrate this day of the year like the earlier ones, but we still do it together........ in a different sense though. It all started when we loved spending time with each other and never used to leave any chance of celebration just for the sake of being together. We adored our Moms with flowers, cards, gifts, goodies and also ended up doing the daily chores for them (couple of times). All this not only because we loved our Mom's but also because we could get another reason to celebrate .......... together

Monday Mornings

Monday Mornings taught me that it's fine to forget the sweet memories of yesterday and move on to the goodies coming forth. During my early days of life Monday Mornings were filled with gradual lethargy caused due to the remains of the previous days' fun and frolic leading to come up with various reasons of not going to School but in vain. A little later they marked the excitement of getting back to my pals with juicy gossip and blabber within me and I started looking forward to the Monday Mornings. End of school and it looked as if these Monday Mornings would never turn up again in life. And they never did....till date. Monday Mornings taught me that it is not always what happens but also who all were with us when it happened that that makes it a special memory.   When in college it was a different story altogether. We considered it to be the best day of the whole week when we used to spend the whole day scheduling our week on submitting assignments with " Better late

A Religion called TECHNOLOGY

How many of us understand our religion let alone following it religiously? None. Now that was way too easy. Most of us actually get irritated on the name of religion, yes, you read it right. IRRITATED. Might be because it's so complicated to understand and more so to follow. Yet, there's a strange thing which I have noticed. A special religion which we keep following while we study, play, work, dine, gossip and even when we need to communicate to one another. A religion which we follow sub consciously all through the day and can't do without. A religion, called TECHNOLOGY .  A religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs - Wikipedia says it.   We don't wake up to the tinkling of our Mom's Bangles, we don't g
