What is it that comes to your mind when you hear / read about Digital HR?

#Trending, thanks to the lockdown. The next big thing. A lot of learning and up skilling perhaps.

As I was going through the current digital HR tools which are definitely going to make a long term impact, I came across few Digital skills which we need to be aware of if we are routing for a future in HR.

Welcome to #GuruGyan, a place where you can find my insights and opinions about HR trends and mishaps and their impact on organisations. I will be sharing few of the Digital HR skills that I came across and where and how they can be put to use. So, hop on.

Whether it’s trying to manage work on cloud, sharing information across mobiles, tablets and other gadgets, engaging people across different social media platforms, networking globally via digital media, today and for the day’s to come, there is a lot to be expected from a Digital HR Professional. Owing to this digital transformation certain aspects of HR might just transform drastically while few of them might just disappear. And for someone to be a part of this digital world, one needs to be aware of what kind of digital skills are to be added to their profile to stay connected to the current day continuously transforming trends.

1. Build an aptitude for Technology – Most of the people in HR are used to the traditional approaches and it might take a toll on their overall wellbeing if they are not able to go hand in hand with the emerging digital trends. This growing digitisation has radically changed all our lives impacting our daily workspaces. You need not be an expert at things. Start slow. Take time to read and know little more about the digital trends. Familiarise yourself with online tools, softwares and understand their impact on your work culture.

2. Become a master at Social Media – Most of the HR Professionals are now regulars across social media platforms which act as tools for posting a requirement, searching or browsing through profiles, reaching out to potential candidates, communicating with them and encouraging employees to engage in promoting their brand image. And when I say becoming a master at social media, it does not just limit to having accounts across Linkedin, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and handling them, but also getting to know a little about the algorithm behind the posts and finding optimum ways of searching and networking across these platforms.

3. Decision making based on Data & Analytics – Data and Analytics has not just revolutionised the way IT, Marketing and Finance works, but also ho HR is perceived. A good HR Professional is someone who can gather and analyse data accordingly. And a good Digital HR Professional is one who can assess and access the perfect tools for data simulation, interpretation and analysis. This can prove a very crucial skill for people involved in Talent acquisition and those working on Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

4. Digital Marketing – With the rapid growth of digital technology, every HR will be required to have basic knowledge about digital marketing. Earlier Marketing was just about promoting or advertising the product. But now, brands rule the digital world. And it takes a HR professional to promote their brand strategies through their official website, social media platforms, digital media. We can also say that HR is broadening its perspective and evolving into an integration of all major functions of an organisation.

5. Think Digital HR. Think Gamification – If you thought gamification technique is just used for mobile apps based on games, you have got to get out and take a whiff of fresh air. Recruitment, Pay-rolling, Appraisals Employee engagement, Learning & Development and many more HR functions can be achieved through the proper use gamification techniques. This can also become a technique which can help remotely working employees connected to each other which is one major motivational factor at any workplace.

Let me know what is your next big thing in this rapidly transforming digital world. Feel free to hit me queries you have about the emerging trends of Digital HR. Though I am not an expert at it, will try and resolve them to the best of my knowledge. Also, let me know if you have come across some interesting digital tool or skill that has impacted your work style or overall perspective of looking at work.

7 TIPS TO MAKE JOURNALING A DAILY HABIT

Habits make us what we are. True that. Many of us are familiar and are probably experts at writing a Diary. In fact any one who has ever tried maintaining a diary at some point of our lives are all potential writers according to me. A diary is the only place where we can put out our thoughts without deliberation, where we can shout out loud about our inhibitions, where we can mention our fantasies without hesitation. I have too many lovely memories of writing a diary. My day would start and end with it. And one thing that would always find place in it on any given day was my love for Prem. Had to stop the habit as it turned out that people in my family got suspicious that I would someday elope with a guy named Salman Khan. I know, you must be having a laugh at it, but back then it was a little serious, not to forget that I was just 15 then. I never got back to that habit again. Yet, he remains my eternal heart throb till date.  Thanks to the advent of technology and our friendly so...

The story behind our WEEKdays

I was a little confused in the morning about what day it is today, when I tried finding out about it, I stumbled across this – ‘ Thunder’s Day ’ I wondered if it had to do with the upcoming monsoons, which is not same across the World. So, a little research and this is what I found. Sharing this # GuruGyan with all you koolkanyas out there. We are all aware that our days of the week are named after planets. Ideally, we should be having 7 and not 9? That is where the #Babylonians come in to picture. They were the ones who adopted that number because they observed 7 celestial bodies – the SUN, the MOON, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. I wonder why they never considered Uranus, Neptune, Pluto or Earth for that matter.     #GuruGyan1   SUNDAY – The name takes its origin from a Latin phrase “ dies Solis ” meaning the Sun’s Day. Google Nani and Wiki Dadi say that God worked for 6 days and rested on the Seventh day which is allegedly the Sabbath day or Saturday as ...
